Search Engine Spiders
Ever wondered what a search engine spider may see when visiting one of your pages? ShowSpider.pl is just a simple utility we wrote inhouse for some testing but we thought some of you might benefit from using it. Just enter the web address for one of your pages in the form shown here:

URL:

  • Mostly spiders will only see the text of your web page.
  • Most spiders will not translate any javascript generated text.
  • Most search engines will not spider framed pages very well.
  • If the page deals with baseball, then try to have a high keyword density of baseball related words.
  • Some search engines will give you a lower ranking if you have hidden non visible keywords on the page. The will sense that you're trying to fool the spider.
  • Don't just include a huge list of keywords. Having some actual sentence structure is better.
  • You don't have to register each web page of your site. If your pages have links to the other pages then the spider will eventually probe the entire site.
  • A great pair of sites to visit to learn about spider friendly web page design are SearchEngineWorld and SearchEngineWatch.
